No team has ever gone 7–0 at a Rugby World Cup — winning every single match from the pool stage through to the final. New Zealand came closest in 2015, going unbeaten through the knockouts but dropping a dead-rubber pool game. Before them, the 1987 All Blacks swept their pool but still conceded in the final.
A completely flawless run — seven games, seven wins, no draws, no losses — has never been done. In Webb Ellis XV, it can be. But you'll need elite players in all 15 positions, a world-class coaching influence, and very little luck to spare.
Webb Ellis XV features 48 squads across 14 nations, spanning every Rugby World Cup from 1987 to 2023. Each squad uses the real starting lineup from that tournament with player ratings reflecting their specific form and performances at that edition — not their peak career rating.
This means Dan Carter in 2015 rates higher than in 2003. Jonah Lomu in 1995 rates higher than in 1999. A young Maro Itoje in 2019 rates higher than the same squad in a hypothetical 2025. The ratings are a snapshot of each player at that specific World Cup moment.
Squads range from all-time great sides — the 1987 All Blacks, the 2007 Springboks, England's 2003 champions — through to cautionary tales like England 2015 and South Africa 2003, ensuring the spin pool has genuine spread across all tiers.
